Whether your goals include replacing missing teeth, brightening your smile, or correcting procedures done by another professional, we are here to help you improve your look and confidence. Our distinguished team of specialists is highly qualified and accredited in the field of cosmetic and general dentistry and welcomes you to explore your options for a smile makeover in San Diego.

When Is A Smile Intervention Necessary?

We commonly see and treat San Diego patients whose problems reach beyond cosmetic. Drs. Amber Kaplan and David Landau are skilled in diagnosing issues concerning the temporomandibular joint, occlusion, bone structure, and lips, all of which are imperative to the function and health of the smile.

Intervention may be recommended if:

  • Your skeletal structure is not in proper function, which affects your smile.
  • You are experiencing tissue inflammation.
  • You have a canted, or crooked midline, which means your midline does not line up with your face properly.
  • Your upper jaw is not even on both sides.
  • You experience any changes in speech, which may mean the length and width of your facial structure is off and impinging on tongue space.

Am I A Good Candidate for a Smile Makeover?

You may benefit from a smile makeover if you have:

  • Missing Teeth
  • Cracked or Damaged Teeth
  • Uneven Bite or Crooked Midline
  • Crooked Teeth
  • Yellow or Stained Teeth
  • Problems or Unresolved Expectations from Previous Treatments
  • Incorrect Restorative Procedures Resulting in Fractures or Failure
  • Pain or Discomfort in the Jaw or Mouth

Our Exclusive 7-Step Smile Makeover Process

Our unique design process takes into account the aesthetics vs. the function of your smile to ensure long-term results you can wear with confidence.

Step 1: New Patient Exam

Before we can discuss the expectations of your smile makeover, we first need to understand your needs, desires and history. We want to determine if the concern is part of a more complex issue a dentist was unable to correct or if you want to look into restorative dentistry.

Step 2: Diagnostic Phase

  • Help you understand how your dental health reached its current situation and factors you can and cannot control.
  • Gather appropriate records and information for us to study and develop a plan that incorporates art, science and biology to best address your needs.
  • Utilize photography, radiography, impressions, jaw relation records, videos for movement of your smile, display of your teeth while you talk, analysis of your bite and jaw, mockup, and wax up to run potential scenarios through a sophisticated articulator and determine what needs to be done in order to make your treatment plans and alternatives.
  • Collaborate as a team to review your treatment plans and confirm they will deliver the desired outcome.

Step 3: Treatment Plan Presentation

We will present an organized and well-thought-out treatment plan designed on the factors we established during Step 2.

Step 4: Treatment Plan Phase-In

Your treatment plan is based on your expectations, and we will phase it based on your needs and biology to ensure complete success.

Step 5: Execution

Tooth Preparation and Temporization Phase

Before we finalize your new teeth, we want you to fully experience how your smile and mouth will look and feel. After several appointments for reshaping. Once the teeth are prepared, we will use your provisional crowns as a guide for the lab to fabricate your new smile.

First Fitting

For your first fitting, we will remove your temporaries and try in your new teeth. To confirm your new smile is perfect, we will take you to see it in natural outdoor light and request feedback from you, any attending family or friends, your doctor, and our team. Your teeth will not be cemented into your mouth until everyone is completely satisfied. If your doctor feels there is anything about your new smile keeping it from being a perfect piece of functional art, we will send the teeth back to the lab for revisions.

Step 6: Completion

Once the expectations of the aesthetics and function have been satisfied, we will deliver your new smile.

Step 7: Follow-Up

After completing your new smile, we will see you in a few weeks to make sure everything is working as expected. We will also take this time to adjust your occlusion if necessary.

Sometimes, No Dentistry is the Best Dentistry

At Art of Dentistry, we believe in preserving your smile and performing conservative treatments when possible. Before any treatment begins and to determine whether alterations are needed, we use a process called modeling.

This allows us to take a closer look into your muscular curvature to get a complete understanding of your anatomy for the most accurate treatment recommendations.
